Meet CNG Digital’s Content Marketing Specialist, Eric Rudeen!

Prior Career Experience:

During my senior year at Cal State Fullerton in 2018, I was in the marketing department of a residential home builder in Irvine, CA. There I designed print advertisements and worked with their advertising agency for all digital advertising.

My work experience previous to that consisted of a variety of customer service roles; bars & restaurants, coffee shops, etc.

What Got You Started in Digital Marketing?

Working with City Ventures’ advertising agency first piqued my interest in digital marketing. Soon after, I enrolled in digital marketing courses at Cal State Fullerton and trained myself in a variety of online resources – Hubspot, Google Academy, Codecademy, etc. – to prepare myself for a career in the industry.

What Do You Like to Do Outside the Office?

I’m very much an extrovert, so I spend a lot of time with my family and friends in my free time, trying new restaurants, bars, and music venues around the city. But when time allows me to engage in personal interests, I like music, pop culture, movies, and writing.

Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop, Alternative; depends on mood and setting. While I’m working I like instrumental hip-hop or house.

4. What’s something you say or do often?

Marketing Q&A

15. What started your marketing career?

When I transferred to Cal State Fullerton from Long Beach City College, my major of choice was Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing; that being the most creative choice of the bunch.

16. What do you like most about agency life?

I like how dynamic the industry is. There’s always a new tool or practice that can help you do your job better and it's refreshing.

17. What did you want to be when you grow up?

I used to dread the idea of working in an office... and here I am! I actually really enjoy working in an office now. I want to have a creative role no matter where I am.

18. What is your favorite part of marketing?

I love seeing a brand/company that is brilliantly branded and marketed. Like yeah, Fortune 500 companies have some brilliant business minds behind them and are each so impressive, but I’m much more intrigued by brands like The Fader, Noisey, or Refinery 29, each of which is perfectly positioned in their target markets in the best way.

A big part of marketing for me also is ethics. Many companies try to cut corners or manipulate people with their marketing to make a buck, but to me, ethical and honest marketing are much more respectable and profitable in the long run.

19. What do you like most about CNG?

First off, the people I work with are all insanely talented and really fun, and it makes up for a pretty great work environment. Second, we have a wide variety of clientele so we get to learn a lot about many different industries. Lastly, the leadership team has strong growth- and entrepreneurial-minded practices and are very motivational for a newcomer into the industry.
